Melissa McClone Bio:
Melissa McClone’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University led her to a job with a major airline where she traveled the globe and met her husband. Analyzing jet engine performance couldn’t compete with her love of writing happily ever afters. Her first full-time writing endeavor was her first sale when she was pregnant with her first child! Since then, she has published over twenty-five romance novels with Harlequin and been nominated for Romance Writers of America’s RITA award. When she isn’t writing, she’s usually driving her minivan to/from her children’s swim and soccer practices, 4-H meetings and dog shows. She also supports deployed service members through Soldiers’ Angels and fosters cats through a local non-kill rescue shelter. Melissa lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, three school-aged children, two spoiled Norwegian Elkhounds and cats who think they rule the house.

Christmas at the Castle Synopsis

A royal wedding. A meddlesome mother. An unexpected union.

A European getaway during the Christmas holiday is exactly what veterinarian Katrina “Kat” Parsons needs. She can’t wait to be a bridesmaid in her childhood friend’s royal wedding, but she hopes to steer clear of the bride’s arrogant older brother.

Crown Prince Guillaume wants his younger sister’s wedding day to be perfect, but he’s suspicious of Kat. He and his mother on are on high alert, afraid Kat is not just there for the wedding, but also to find a prince of her own.

But when Kat’s kindness and generosity prove them wrong, the prince realizes there’s more to her than he ever imagined. Can he trust his heart or will he lose the one woman he can’t live without?

Christmas at the Castle Book Review

Christmas at the Castle was a thoroughly enjoyable book. From start to finish it is entertaining, light, and fun. This isn't a typical fairytale romance with the lead character falling in love with the royal male just because he is a prince. Kat is a regular girl and doesn't dream of one day marrying royalty, she just wants to live her life as a veterinarian and be there for her best friends' wedding...which just happens to be in a castle.

I loved that the story takes place over a few weeks, with additions of backstory so you get to know Kat, her best friend Sophie, and Sophie's standoffish older brother Gill. This isn't an insta-love story. Kat and Gill have a history of knowing each other as teenagers, but don't really get to know each other well until Kat visits for the wedding. We get to see them go from verbal sparring partners to friends to more.

Author Melissa McClone crafted a sweet romance book that was a pleasure to read. Her characters are well written and you want to peek more into their lives as the story continues. Kat is a hard working woman, loyal, dedicated, and doesn't let people push her around. She encourages and supports Sophie in her choices - as a good best friend should do. Gill is a protective and loving older brother, but not smothering. He's a bit arrogant or stiff to begin with, but as you get to know him you see it's just the way that he protects himself from getting hurt.

This is the third book in the Ever After series. You can read Christmas at the Castle as a stand alone novel, you don't need to read the others to follow the story. I have to admit though, after finishing this book I definitely wanted to read the other two books in the series. Good news too! Right now the first book in the series, The Honeymoon Prize, is being offered as a free Kindle book! You can download it here.
